Holiday Trip

Two days after Christmas, Andrew, Peyton & I drove to the mountains of North Carolina for a much needed break and some R & R after both of our graduations and Christmas. We stayed 7 days/6 nights - MUCH too long, especially in early pregnancy when you feel like crap. I get car sick anyway, and being pregnant didn't help at all. The winding roads around the mountains were really rough on my stomach and we had to stop often for me to get sick!

We stayed in this cute little cabin that was about 45 minutes away from EVERYTHING - seriously, we had quite a hike just to get milk! I definitely don't like being that isolated! It was super cold while we were there and our main goal was to see some snow! However, the only snow we found was about an hour away and it was man-made...but still fun!

Here is a view of our cabin from the road. We borrowed a snow sled hoping to use it on the slopes, but Andrew & Peyton would start at the top of this hill by the cabin, and slide all the way down to the bottom. On the last day we were there, we woke up to a little frost/ice and that made sledding all the more fun and very fast!

One of the highlights of our trip was to take a (FOUR hour) ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. Peyton LOVES trains, so this was quite an adventure for her!

She had fun looking out the window at all the scenery. It was a little too cold for me because some people had their windows open the entire time!

We followed this raging water for most of the trip. It was very pretty to look at!

Peyton wanted to go down to get a little closer to the water, but that was not happening!

This train trip had Peyton worn out by the time we stopped half way through the journey. She was fighting a nap!

On the ride back, she finally gave in and took about an hour nap. She was so afraid she was going to miss something!

This is the ski resort we went to so Peyton could play in the snow. She LOVED it and didn't want to leave - until she got some snow in her "glo-ves" (that's how she says it, 2 syllables)! Then, she was really cold and wanted the snow out of there!

When we first got here, she threw herself down in the snow and said she had to "make an angel". The snow was a little icy so it was kind of hard to make a snow angel.

You can't really tell from these pics, but this was a rather steep hill, and Peyton and I would sit down and push ourselves down the hill on the icy snow. She loved it!
